Wildlife & Ecology
The Serengeti supports over 70 large mammal species and 500 bird species across four distinct ecosystems — the southern short-grass plains, the central Seronera woodlands, the western corridor along the Grumeti River, and the northern extension toward the Mara River. Resident lion prides hold fixed territories year-round, while the wildebeest, zebra and gazelle passing through are simply following the rains.
Getting There
Most visitors fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport, then connect via a short scheduled flight to one of the Serengeti's airstrips — Seronera, Kogatende or Grumeti, depending on which part of the park you're visiting. Driving from Arusha takes 6–8 hours via Ngorongoro, which some guests prefer for the game viewing en route.
